Just touched down in Copenhagen. The bags are thrown into the hotel room, and your team is playing in a few hours!
The minutes are ticking down until kickoff, and you’re wondering which is the best place to catch the football and quench your thirst on a well deserved pint.
We’ve all been in that scenario!
Or, maybe you’re living in Copenhagen, and you’re not fully aware of the best places to watch your favourite teams around this cosy city yet.
Well, at Sport Compass we have complied a list of the best spots in Copenhagen to follow all the sporting action with a refreshing beverage, or couple it with some delicious pub grub!
The Shamrock Inn

The Shamrock Inn is the oldest genuine Irish pub in Copenhagen, pouring creamy pints of Guinness to local Danes and foreign expats, who have made their home on Danish soil, alike for just over 30 years. Located in the heart of Copenhagen, snuggled in between Vesterbro station and Copenhagen’s central train station, it is one of the most convenient bars to meet up with friends, whether it involves quenching the thirst after a long day at work, hanging out at the weekend or watching the football with some mates. They have a large screen in the main bar that has an unobstructed view from any seat in the pub, as well as a raised perch above the bar itself that gives you optimised viewing of the game. As you head downstairs, it is akin to walking into a nostalgic man-cave, decorated with vintage leather sofas, a pool table and a duke box filled with cheesy hits and absolute crackers from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. But what makes this the cream of the crop of stylish man caves is the giant projector screen that comes down on match day. One of the ‘go-to’ places in Copenhagen to watch the football!

Kennedy’s

“The best feckin’ pint in Europe”
Friendly locals who are always up for a chat on anything from the latest football transfer gossip to what is the best takeaway to get a chicken curry from; the local GAA club’s trophies standing proudly overlooking the bar, the decades-old Irish memorabilia hanging on the wall; the strange Irish games of Hurling and Gaelic football on the TV screens every Sunday during the summer months that both fascinate and confuse the Danish local as well as the foreign expat. These are just a few of the characteristics that make this bar an authentic Irish pub. And on match-day, there is nowhere else to be. Two 60” screens at either side of the bar make this pub a great place to watch the football. In addition, there are another 2 screens downstairs: one at the cosy, little cubby at the bottom of the stairs and another in the pool table room. Whatever match you are looking for, the management and staff will go above and beyond to accommodate your sports viewing needs. And while the bar does not serve food, you are allowed to order either pizzas, burgers, or kebabs from around the corner, munch away on your order at the pub, and wash it down with one of the huge selection of beers they have on tap .

The Dubliner

Located in the middle of Strøget, this pub is the perfect spot to watch the football with a group of your mates. Great big long tables placed in front of the giant projector screen which slides down on match-day, coupled with the friendly waiting staff who are always on hand to serve beer and food right to your table so you don’t have to worry about missing any piece of the sporting action. Again, this pub has two smaller screens at either end of the bar, making it a great choice to watch the football when you want to keep an eye on every match. And if all the football has you feeling peckish, there is a tasty pub grub menu which serves bar snacks, traditional Irish dishes, burgers, and a sports platter for you and your squad.

Pub og Sport

Pub og Sport is ideally located next to Rådhuspladsen or the Copenhagen City Hall, so with the metro opening up just around the corner, it is very easy to get here, chill out with a beer, and watch the football. It is designed as a classic English pub making it automatically cozy when you walk in. There are 2 big screens and 10 smaller screens located around the bar with plenty of seating, so you never have a hard time finding the game you want to watch. And after the matches have finished, there are 7 pool tables, along with plenty of dart boards around the pub, to keep you and your mates entertained well into the night.

Park Pub

If it’s football and beer you want, then you have come to the right spot in Park pub. A cosy little bar, with plenty of screens both placed above the bar and at either end of the pub, which gives it an authentic football bar feel. You can get a nice, cold, simple beer at a reasonable price meaning all your concentration goes into watching the football, rather than spending the first 15 minutes of the match deciding which beer you should choose. Located in Østerbro, just around the corner from Telia Parken, this spot also makes it a great pit stop if you are going to or coming from a live FCK match. And with the new metro stops closeby (Trianglen St. and Poul Henningsens plads), it makes it even easier to get here. Entertainment-wise the pub is home to a big shuffle-board table, so you can show off your ‘hand-curling skills’ to your mates.

Storm Inn

‘Hot Pies and craft beer’, the pleasures in life god intended us to enjoy! This cosy pub is the essence of the Danish term hyygligt. Whether you’re looking for a warm, cosy, intimate evening of great food and beer with your friends, or whether you want to do as the English do and have a pie at half time of the football, the Storm Inn has you covered. A hidden gem at the heart of Copenhagen, this pub is located on Stormgade which is located a stone throw away from Tivoli, Radhuspladsen metro and Copenhagen central train station. The pub has a great selection of a mix of classic British and Danish ales along with modern ones too, along with a smiling, friendly staff that are a joy to be around. And being one of the few places in CPH that showed the 2019 Rugby World Cup in the Autumn, you get the feeling that this is a pub that takes it sport seriously. A cracking place to relax and enjoy the football.

Freddy’s Bar

Freddy’s Bar is located just around the corner from Kødbyen (or the meat packing district) so is a perfect cheap spot to come and wet your whistle after expensive dining in some of the city’s best restaurants. The beer offers alone are enough to entice you to quench your thirst at this charming little bodega with its own unique style. It is a glorious place to cool down with a refreshing, ice-cold beer when the suns out, with tables and chairs set up outside so you can bask in the Copenhagen sun. The bar itself has a couple of little screens inside the bar so you can watch the football with the Danish locals, and for the big games they have a projector screen. A great alternative choice for watching the game around the Vesterbro area.

Borgerkroen

A Danish bodega as traditional as they come. While located right in the city centre amongst a bustling city atmosphere, it still manages to maintain that quiet after-work ambience, and is a cheap option for a city centre pub. It is a regular go-to bar for younger and older generations alike. The quiet, chilled-out mood is the biggest attraction to Borgerkroen. While it doesn’t look like a typical place where you would come to watch the football, on match day a projector screen the size of the window slides down and transforms the place into a very cosy destination for optimum football viewing. And for those who appreciate transport convenience, the new Marmorkirken metro station is literally right around the corner

Cafe Runddelen

Situated in the heart of Nørrebro, this is another one of your standard traditional bodegas, and that is the reason we like it. The location of this watering hole is amazing, as it is situated right across the street is the Nørrebro Runddel metro station. Guzzling down delicious, cheap bottles of cold beer while sitting in the sun is what great summers are made of, and at Café Runddelen the outside terrace is a sun trap from heaven. And when the football season starts, this is a serious spot to spend your match day. Full time is not called here until well into the early hours of the morning, so there is plenty of time to celebrate the win or drown the sorrows of defeat after the referee blows the final whistle.

Then Frederik VI might be the place to you. With 22 beers on tap, it is a beer lovers dream. It has a vintage, elegant, old-school décor that oozes of class. The large brass tap that displays the beers is very stylish, and with the bar being situated on a corner, there is plenty of outdoor seating for when the weather is warm. On match day, there are two large screens placed up high at either side of the bar, so finding a seat for comfortable viewing is never too hard. And for convenience, Frederiksberg Alle metro is right down the street.

The location is absolutely superb, situated on Løngangstræde, which is a stones throw away from the metro and Copenhagen’s central train station. There is also a dart board, so when the match is over the competitive edge doesn’t stop! And despite it’s Bodega appearance, it’s a non-smoking bar which means you can enjoy the game without ruining your clothes or getting that stingy eye feeling. One of Copenhagen’s essential pubs for travelling sports fans who are worried about missing their local team in action, whatever the sport!
